  1. Past hour
  2. Yes, that could also become reality. Its not a stretch.
  3. Man you have a skewed way of looking at things. The only thing you said that is remotely true is that there are tax shelters and loopholes. While I don't always agree with them, some of them are there for a reason. The rest of what you said is just wackadoodle stuff. You do realize that without the business the wealthy people run wouldn't have jobs, right?!?! So middle class get all THEIR money from the wealthy. And the idea that the rich "hoard it" is as ridiculous as it comes. I love asking these questions to people like you that just blanketly hate people who have more money than them. How much money do you think company CEO's should make? Do you know what it takes to build up a company and run one? What have the big bad "rich" people done to you to hate them so much? By the way...you do realize the big bad rich R's are the biggest philanthropists out there, right?!
  4. Appears Saldate has landed already as well...
  5. The Brandses have not recruited as well the past 12 years as they did at the beginning of their tenure in Iowa city. Below is a table I made with the number of top 25 recruits for a selection of top teams from 2005-2024. A top 25 recruit should roughly equate to a top 10 wrestler assuming the rankers are able to accurately determine which wrestlers will be have the best college careers. From 2005-2012 Iowa had the second most top 25 recruits (16) behind only OSU (19). All these years were Brands years except 2005. He was at Virginia Tech that season where he was able to recruit 3 top 25 wrestlers who all ultimately ended up at Iowa, so including that they would be tied with OSU. Best recruiting in D1 up until 2013. Since 2012 Iowa has not been as successful in recruiting top 25 wrestlers. They have not had more than 2 in a season with 2023 being the exception. That year was is kind of an exception which may be partially explained by the unusually good recruiting class the state of Iowa produced in 2023. In 2023 there were 3 Iowa natives in the top 25 recruits and all committed to Iowa. Only three times in the 2005-2024 time period has the state of Iowa produced at least 3 top 25 recruits; 2023 (3), 2012 (3), and 2005 (4). Each of these seasons Iowa/Brands has had an excellent recruiting class. In the 2013-2024 time period Iowa's ability to recruit top 25 wrestlers has diminished with PSU, OSU, and Ohio State routinely out recruiting them. Their peers are now teams like Minnesota, Cornell, Michigan, Nebraska, VT, and NC State.
  6. Correct. Brooks beat the brakes off of Parker and Trent. It was like watching an adult wrestle a child. If the team title or scoring record had been up for grabs, you might’ve heard Casey barking for more output from him in the third, a la Ed Ruth. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. A couple of interesting entries in to the portal that could thrive in the right environment. Iowa's Bretli Reyna at 149lbs (People's Champion) Utah Valley's Evan Bockmon at 197lbs (19W - 9L on the season, NQ)
  8. I'll keep pounding on those those monstrous pits of waste and evil.
  9. The problem is that the Uber wealthy pay LOWER taxes than middle class due to tax shelters and other business owner loopholes. The wealthy also get all of their money from the middle class and poor so some progression is 100% appropriate. A flat tax rate will result in even more accumulation at the top and hurt the economy. The rich don't spend most of their money. They hoard it.
  10. Ohio St aka tOSU 125- Davino 133- Bouzakis 141- Mendes 149- Sasso 157- Joey Blaze/Dylan D'Emilio 165 Gallagher 174- Kharchla 184- Welsh 197 Sonny Sasso Hvy Feldman
  11. Wait... another thread lists Illinois as one of the many teams that is surpassing Iowa!
  12. As stupid as this sounds, from an administrator's point of view, it's Director's Cup points.
  13. guess I don't understand attacking the messenger when the message has such merit. while everyone wants to see more pins, there is still something inherently wrong with a pin being worth 4 x a decision, especially when most fans are at least used to scoring double (6 vs 3) in a dual format. both suggestions noted above could be implemented, whereby consi advancement matches HS and is worth 1 pt (half of topside) AND consi bonus points are worth half the topside as well. The current format also overly rewards forfeits on the consi side. For what it's worth, I would still prefer to revamp tourney scoring so that the average fan can easily follow, with it matching dual scoring. No advancement points, tweak place points and make consis just half of champ side. combined, of course, with margin of victory scoring.
  14. Today
  15. Wonder how he would have felt if they scored a bunch of bonus on the backside?
  16. I was told by somebody who knows what he is talking about that a big part of any problem is that Iowa has "two bad cops" who are clearly running the show. One "bad cop" might work, but two is apparently not optimal. I still think they are doing pretty well as the second best program, just passing along what I had heard.
  17. I would stop at saying that it doesn't appeal to recruits. In his 18 years as head coach (not including the COVID year where no one competed), Tom Brands routinely recruits among the best guys in the country and his teams have finished in the top five 16 times. Hell, he recruited one of the best high school wrestlers of all times and him and his staff developed him into a three-time National Champion. The Hawkeyes never suffer for numbers and their second tier guys would be starters at 75-80% of other Division I programs. To address the "authoritarians not innovators" comment, I wonder if it's more appropriate to say "brawlers versus dancers." One is very brutal and harsh, where the other is more elegant and graceful. I don't know... That said, the old Iowa style I grew up with is not my style, but I also love what Iowa brings to the wrestling world.
  18. This is essentially how my brain thinks about taxes. I just don't understand why it isn't the same % for everyone....people that don't make as much don't pay as much...people that make more pay more.
  19. Welcome to the Big 10. Figure it out Poeta. Somehow Iowa can figure out how to fundraise $30+ million for a new wrestling facility. Somehow Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio State can all figure out how to raise a boatload of money for improved facilities in addition to competing for recruits in the NIL era. It's part of being a head coach today. If he can't mange to work the phone and bring in enough money to be competitive, then Illinois needs to bring in someone who can. Illinois as a state qualified 32 for the NCAA tournament last year #2 behind PA and this year qualified 22 for the NCAA tournament, 4th most this year. U of I qualified a pathetic 3 this year, two of which were done Day 1.
  20. Personally, if your team is not top 3 why would you care as a fan if you are 10th or 20th? I would judge the success of my team by how the individuals do, A few high AAs or even blood round guys would be a better way to judge than where you are in the top 20. I know it is easier to just look at NCAA team placement
  21. Is this your new signature line?
  22. So Rutgers fans who are not happy with the 20th place will be happy with say 16th place thatt Rutgers might get if tournament rules are tweaked?
