Just wanted to give a shout out to this guy. One of the best redemption stories around. Those of us who've been around the forums for a while will know the guy's history. I remember him as a young phenom, wrestling in Cadets at Salulaev's weight, getting injured in the semis. Comes back, parlays that into undefeated high school career, goes to OSU. Gets regularly whupped by Dieringer, which necessitates a huge cut to 157.... things go haywire, off the team as he turns to drugs/alcohol, transfers, gets arrested after a bender... rock bottom. Then surrounds himself with good people, picks himself up, gets sober, comes back to take 4th and 3rd at NCAAs at Lock Haven. Becomes very, very open about his sobriety network as he gets his feet firmly planted, raises his kids, trains hard, starts a club, many of them in Vegas. Made Final X last year and does it again this year, finally overcoming the Dieringer hurdle. Shane isn’t there because he’s a hype guy - he’s there because he works his butt off and earned the right to be the lead guy. He’s always “on” and his hype isn’t a schtick. Hype guys don’t do research and appreciate action like Shane does. He’s excitable and has a nearly unmatched passion for the sport.

No, because it's not as simple as you think it is. Having reffed, your mind is conditioned to red/green, right/left and connected to the scorers table, the scoreboard, and the ankles of the wrestlers to insure you have the right wrestler scoring. It might seem cool to the fan, but changing out colors every match at a tournament would be an absolute nightmare. People would be yelling all day long that the score was wrong and coaches would need 17 bricks to get things right.

i just got off the phone with a member on the staff. he said Sammy is doing good and walking on his own and doing rehab. take it for what it's worth. perhaps there's more going on and they don't want to say much. or perhaps it's exactly as they told me. i've talked to his mother once right after it happened. and i've thought about contact sammy or his parents again. but i also want to respect their privacy and not be that guy at this time.

I just want to say that Griffith is making a mockery of modern college wrestling. First he is insubordinate. He refuses not to train when his school basically tells him not to and then he goes and wrestles in a national tournament after his school cancels his program. Then after he shamefully forced his school to keep his and many other programs which do not generate revenue but rather are just about student athletes, he disgracefully insists -- a national champion, no less! -- on wrestling at every opportunity. He takes on his top rival 4 times in a single year, who does he think he is? Kyle Dake? Tom Brands? Those guys are relics! And then this year he -- how gauche, a 2x NCAA finalist -- not only enters but actually wrestles in a holiday tournament. And then, to top it off, less than two weeks later he refuses to duck, and loses to, the guy who gave him all he wanted in the Scuffle final. I say this guy has violated so many norms of decent conduct that he should be canceled and never spoken of on these boards ever again.

I want to get my best wishes in early as I will be out and about. Everyone have a wonderful and safe time. I enjoy arguing with you all, I enjoy learning from you all, and I enjoy being entertained by you all. A few things to add here that haven't been covered: -His videos (of minors) are embedded on porn sites -Many of his most viewed videos have large portions that don't feature wrestling (wrestlers walking around during injury time/blood time) -He films and uploads videos without having permission/rights to the events Most recently he wasn't credentialed for Midlands and filmed anyway before he got kicked out by Storniolo. We've tried to strike his channel for copyright infringement because that's what we can actually prove. We're still working through it but things have gotten tricky where we've had to bring in legal.

Details Matter But before you start with the victory laps let's talk about process. How you got there matters. After all, what is a team score, but the sum of a bunch of individual scores. On that front we have a different set of winners. Take a bow @Perry for having the smallest absolute error across all ten matches. @Interviewed_at_Weehawken takes runner up while @CHROMEBIRD and @Truzzcat round up the balance of the podium positions. Visionaries (aka Know It Alls) Yeah, but too much details is for nerds. All I need to know is who got the most matches correct? This is clearly the most important category by a long, long way. I don't need to do any fancy pants math to tell either. All I need to do is look at the illustrious list of luminaries who got 9 of 10 calls correct. We like to argue a lot on these here boards, but I think there is one thing that is beyond dispute, these dudes/dudettes know wrestling. Back to the Math, NERD Putting it all together. If we reduce all of this to ranks and average the ranks we get a new rank. As rank as the concept of all that math may be to some of you, you will just have to hold your noses as we crown our champion. The straightest shooter among us took aim at, and hit, the bully's eye. You clearly just saw me post this on X/Twitter and came here to ask the question, already knowing the answer.

Victor Wembanyama gets drafted by the Spurs (along with his brother). He rapes a girl in San Antonio, posts a picture of his butthole on SM, totals a car and almost kills a teammate while driving like an asshole, his brother shoots up the house and car of another teammate for dating his sister. Spurs release him. Then he gets overtures from another team (say the Lakers), he goes to LA, signs a two-day contract to play in an intrasquad game and plays poorly but scores the winning basket at which point he takes a swing at Lebron then flips him off and all of the Lakers fans in attendance. After that he gives an interview in which he says that he's a good guy and a "christian", starts selling magic rocks and SM and is now saying the NBA is for pussies and he's going to do something tough like going to play in Turkey.

Sex offender isn't a race

I started 4 years at Penn competed twice in the NCAA tournament. In 1975 I won my first round match and separated my shoulder defaulting out. It was the first injury and first time I ever missed a match because of one. I lost in the NY state finals to Jack Spates. I'm a big supporter of Penn wrestling and I'm on the EIWA Hall of Fame committee.

I’ll bite: Spencer is more desirable for the Iowa job. Jordan is more desirable for every other job.

Looking at the brackets I am always interested who lost their first match and made it to AA. It appears that only one person did that this year. 184 (11) Gavin Kane UNC - took 8th. There were a number of folks that AA'd after winning their first match but losing their second. But I am only listing the guy that went the furthest after losing their first match. I say congrats to Gavin in his Herculean effort to come back from a 1st round loss and come back to AA. mspart

A few of the finalists seemed to cast their vote for wrestlers named Jesus or God. One gave a penalty point to a fellow named Mohammed (Brooks). One voted for his balls (Starocci). One voted against himself (Yianni, who said he has to get much better). Several voted for their parents or the genetic lottery. One or two gave a partial vote to their coaches. One may have voted for his losing opponent (O'Toole). And a celebrity with body guards in the stands voted for himself. In fact, I think he gave himself a dozen or so votes. And said they are still looking for the rest of the ballots.

Just looking at some stats from the team scores that I found interesting. 2024 Penn State vs. 1997 Iowa For those wondering about the 3 pt. takedown and 4 point near fall and how that affected bonus points. Penn State gained 11 extra team points via bonus that they would not have received had it not been for a combination of the above scoring changes since 1997 although you could argue some of their tech falls might have still come as some came like 5 minutes into the match. They had 8 total tech falls so that accounts for 4 of those points (tech falls going to major decisions = -0.5 team points) Team Over-performers and under-performers - looking at how teams were projected to score based strictly on seeds (advancement and placement points) and how many placement and advancement points they actually scored (no bonus) Over-Performers 1. And let's get this out of the way up front. Yes, I include the top 8 seeds from the cancelled 2020 tournament. So sue me. AA Trivia There have been 190 schools with at least one All-American. A total of 5,590 All-American honors have been shared by 3,307 wrestlers (or perhaps fewer if I have some mis-spellings). In 1981 there were only 79 All-Americans as there was no 8th place awarded at 134. Oklahoma State, at 480 AA's, is a full 32.6% ahead of Iowa's 362. The longest active streak of consecutive years with at least one All-American belongs to Iowa at 52 years. The longest dry spell is Army at 15 years. They last had an AA in 2008 (Matt Kyler, 141). The Top 5 At each team's current pace (average of 2022 and 2023): Iowa will overtake Oklahoma State for the all time lead in 2057. Penn State will overtake Iowa in 2101.
