  1. Looking at the brackets I am always interested who lost their first match and made it to AA. It appears that only one person did that this year. 184 (11) Gavin Kane UNC - took 8th. There were a number of folks that AA'd after winning their first match but losing their second. But I am only listing the guy that went the furthest after losing their first match. I say congrats to Gavin in his Herculean effort to come back from a 1st round loss and come back to AA. mspart

  3. I agree that you should respect the office but I think it's a two-way street that includes doing what every other POTUS in history has done and stepped down when his time was up. In his case he's still touring the country and claiming to be the rightful POTUS while working to divide Americans and actively rooting for our country to fail because he thinks it would be good for him politically. So since he has shown zero respect for the office, American traditions and our laws I don't believe he deserves anybody's respect. Just think of how many lives have been ruined just because of the election lies he told, he should be ashamed of himself for turning decent people into felons solely because they believed his lies. When you hear stories about kids not having their mother or father around because evil Joe Biden is holding them as political prisoners just know that none of them would be in jail if he had just done what countless better men than him have done and conceded the election.

  4. He plays fast and lose with the truth. Everyone who is on this board knows that Spencer was not favored to win the Olympic Gold in 2020 or 2024. Why do people need to stretch the truth, the story is compelling enough without the exaggerations. I made it half way through and he kept piling on more untruths. Specner was not going to be the first and 4X PA champ. He was not undefeated in college until his tournament. After 5 minutes I could not take anymore

  8. I was there… nothing to see here folks. If you’re triggered by a former President attending a sporting event at the invitation of the mayor of a city, in a state that supports that former president, then you really need to dig down deep and summon those lessons you learned from wrestling…if you in fact wrestled… because I’m guessing this won’t be the last time a former president attends a major sporting event.

  10. Nobody is disparaging Christianity here. People are disparaging the fact that Brooks insulted two billion people on national TV and are aghast that people here are throwing all sorts of whataboutisms and false equivalencies and irrelevancies to avoid condemning what Brooks said. Seems like all those folks agree with what he did.

Rabid republican- Believes it's okay to attack police officers and try to overthrow a free and fair election in order to install a sit-time bankrupt, stupid, lying racist who brags about sexually assaulting women as king of America Rabid Democrat- Thinks the above is a bad idea. BOTH ARE THE SAME!

  12. I agree with you 100% but sadly we're in the minority here. I'm gonna get dragged to hell here but I swear those champions who rushed over to shake hands with him now have a stain on them that won't wash off. It's not like some random politician who we happen to disagree with, it's a man who actively continues to try to undermine our democracy. Acknowledging that makes us snowflakes? well ok then let it snow.

  14. I'm fairly certain that he did not enjoy seeing other people winning or being honored. I'm somewhat certain he thought he was going to a WWE event and that he'd be brought into the ring and honored for making their HoF. I'm 100% certain that at some point he told the people around him that if he had wrestled he'd have won all ten weights every year and would have been his own coach. I also suspect that he claimed that Trump University has more titles than PSU does in the last decade.

  15. For the most part I do agree with this wholeheartedly, but I think some nuance applies. If a kid steals from Walmart, of course they should get a second chance. If a kid gets blackout drunk at 18, pees on a wall, and then vandalizes a car, of course they deserve a second chance. When you start talking about the sexual assault and rape I think you start to get in that nuanced area because someone else is involved. If the allegations are true, the woman in the situation will spend the rest of her life living with what happened. It’s not something she can just get over and move on with life. Did Brock Turner deserve a second chance at swimming after his 6 month sentence? I’d argue he did not.

  21. I think there is a perception among some that Cornell exceeded expectations a bit - and on that level, it was a "win" for them. But no question, PSU fans have plenty to be happy about, and plenty to look forward to. So when are we going to see a Cornell vs. PSU dual meet?

  25. I'm honestly torn about what to be most mad about after this year's tourney. I mean I have to be outraged about something, right? Spencer's loss The ridiculousness of discussing this for 5 pages That guy here who had me thinking Nebraska was going to have like 4 champs That's it, I've decided! @jajensen09 is a false prophet!!!!

  27. Spencer wasn't the first ever unbeaten PA 4x State Champ. Kolat and Marstellar were 4x PIAA State Champs. Lee was neither unbeaten or a 4 time State Champ in high school. You'd think Sonnen would not have made that claim after describing Lee losing his final h.s. match.

  28. 1) Who is Alvarez? 2) Gibbons didn't say the ref should not have repositioned. 3) Nothing was easy to see and the referee made several errors in the sequence. It is very difficult to figure out what he was doing. First the referee was seemingly confused the wrestlers colors. He awards the first set of NF as 2 to green. These were supposed to be for Woods who was red. Then they get to their feet and he says still green. He is seemingly still confused as I assume he means to say that Woods is still in control since he has that body lock, but again Woods is red. Next comes the throw and he holds up two for red for the takedown and starts a visual count. Only problem is that it should be two for Green - Alirez is green. He never puts the two fingers down on the red hand he used to award the takedown so it is unclear later whether he is holding two NF or just still has them out from the takedown. He counts two visually with swipes then the third visual swipe comes albeit slower than the first two. Then he puts that hand down on the mat to balance as he repositions himself. Then after he takes he weight off that hand he looks to be winding up for a 4th swipe but stops as the position has changed. It's unclear whether the official intended to stop the count before the reposition because he thought NF criteria has been broken or he intended to just get a better look and was using poor technique. I believe this to be Gibbons's point. In real time the broadcast team is confused and initially Rock Harrison says 4 NF for Alirez. Watching it back several times, it seems that at some point after the reposition the two fingers on the red hand the ref has had up since awarded the takedown become two NF points he's holding and he saying something like "you've got two." However he doesn't immediately award them and holds them after NF criteria is broken and probably the lock too. He finally awards them after he calls action out of bounds and only now does he get the colors straight changing the points to his green hand. I completely agree with Gibbons here. The rule requires a verbal count and visual "whenever possible." The verbal count is required and the visual count is not. It is fine for the referee to reposition himself to get a better look but if the wrestlers position has not changed the verbal count should continue throughout the repositioning even if a visual count is not possible. It appeared to me that the referee intended to continue the count after repositioning and not start a new count and this would have resulted in a longer 4th swipe. That said decoupling the verbal count from the swipes on the fly in a high stress situation is not easy. So while it is easy to see the visual count had stopped that does not say why it was stopped (poor technique causing the count to be delayed - Gibbons's point or change in NF criteria) or if a verbal count continued.

  29. Thank you thank you thank you for this. After five minutes I was alternating between laughing at how ridiculous it was, and not being able to take it anymore. It was so bad on so many levels that it's not worth unpacking them all. Suffice it to say that the factual errors you mention were just the tip of the iceberg - the real outrage was the absurd judgments and comparisons he made and the oversimplifications of an extraordinarily complex situation involving a human being who put his heart into the choices he made which didn't work out well this week. One hopes that he has better luck going forward, on the mat if the knees haven't made that impossible, and off the mat where his substantial drive and intelligence will present many opportunities.

  33. Why? "whether or not the worldview or religion put forth is true or not. " (and not because of the poor grammar) Any argument or discussion that is based on whether a particular religion is true is a non-starter. In fact, that's pretty much the reason for this whole thread.

  35. I agree with everything in your post, with the exception of the "respect for the office" part. Trump is no longer the President. He continues to make claims otherwise, which we may or may not believe. Regardless, the fact is that he is no longer in the office - and is no longer eligible for the "respect for the office" consideration. Discussing Nixon's Watergate scandal, Clinton's Monica scandal, Reagan's Iran Contra scandal, etc. are all fair game. We needn't be concerned about their previous position when discussing those scandals. Trump is no different.

  36. It should be noted that he was going to go in 2020 before covid canceled the tournament last minute and without any indictment looming. Nobody really knows why anyone does anything. Are the choices of politicians influenced by political considerations? Yes, that we do know, but we don't withhold respect for the office (or in the case of POTUS the former office) based on that inference, or not being able to ascertain the full calculus of motives. And I haven't heard anyone report that he comported himself inappropriately or with the unfortunate frequent bluster that bothers so many and is the cause of many of his problems; in fact, it sounds like he said nothing over any sort of microphone, politlely acknowledged an intro over the PA, interacted with people who interacted with him, and watched ten terrific wrestling matches. Under these circumstances, I don't find disappointment with any winners shaking hands with the former president on their special night.

  38. It may be that the answer also depends upon which weight class is being discussed; I can see an argument that Cornell has recently done very well developing lightweights, maybe better than Penn State. But it's hard to argue with PSU's success at the upper weights.

  42. The promise of his family has FINALLY delivered. I realize he is coached by Grey, but this journey started a long time ago while Grey was still wrestling, and Koll was actively recruiting the whole dang family to buy into the program. Vito is ready for the big leagues. He might not make the world team this year, but he has all the tools to do what his dad pulled off decades ago. Watching him destroy RBY made my night.
