  1. Remember when Luke Pletcher used to always have close matches and then his senior year he started crushing dudes? That was awesome. Still sad we didn't get to see Pletcher/Lee round 3.

  2. So, I have seen this claim a number of places, but I have never seen anyone be able to back it up with facts. But even if it is backed up with facts, it ignores at least two important points. First, if PSU has had the best recruits for a decade, what has changed to make that no longer the case? Presumably, under the success begets success philosophy, the PSU recruiting classes would get more so, not less. Using "just" makes it seem way more random than it actually is. Secondly, having the best recruiting class is a purely subjective statement. Who determines the best recruits, and why do we think they are always accurate? There is no definitive way to determine this. It feels like the boogie man people like to use when they want to explain away something they do not truly understand. More likely is that PSU is very good at determining who is likely to succeed at the college level and also very good at landing them as recruits. But to be clear, I also do not understand what is going on, but I am very confident it is not as simple as "just had the best recruits".

  4. His attorney filed a Motion for Discovery. Standard practice, basically you're telling the prosecutor "hey, you have to turn over any evidence you have to me so I can prepare my defense." The other language appears to be related to disclosure of the actual document being barred because it references some kind of protected or sensitive information, typically something like social security numbers or witness/victim's addresses, etc. Nothing noteworthy, at least in what you've shared there.

  5. Well, at least with LBJ, you never have any clue what the hell he's talking about! What's "adorable?" Is it the "poo" style of Wrestling? Do you find Spencer's facial hair adorable? While I DO applaud you figuring out what the shift button is for, what are you talking about? Are you watching puppy videos and just thought you share your feelings with us with absolutely no context? What prey tell is "adorable?"

  7. When Amine and Lewan scrimmage do they just stand and look at each other for 2 hours in the Michigan room? The two most boring wrestlers to wrestle back to back in any lineup ever. Yet they both have AA'd the last two years so until the rules/referees make them change this is what they will do. I am too lazy to do the research but I believe they both have more stalling calls than takedowns in the past 2 years and especially so in their Big 10/NCAA tournament runs. Same for having more escapes than takedowns.

  8. Ironic that the thread is entitled "worst stallers" and all the replies list the best stallers. Case in point - Dan Dennis; the kid never stalled in his career, so when he needed that skill set in the last 30 seconds of the NCAA finals, he had no ideal how to stall correctly. Make no mistake - stalling and not getting called for it is a learned skill.

  9. Listening to Askren - says it is a well known move to bounce opponents face off mat from that position. Fair move. Whole purpose is to slam face into mat so that they release grip to protect head. What? It is a wrestling move to purposefully slam a head into the mat. That is the whole purpose of the move so that the other wrestler releases a grip? I say no. Hell no. If this logic works, then purposeful elbow to face should be just fine. Or knee to face. How about head butt to face. All involve purposefully slamming face with force. It is BS.

  10. I'm sure glad my tax dollars are going to yet another DeSantis quagmire. He's stating here that he's literally going to change a law (or multiple laws) to go back and then invalidate the Disney agreement, implicitly admitting that what Disney did is perfectly legal. Meatball Ron, big "small government" guy.

  12. There are going to be a lot of excellent matches at the Meiji Cup. The reason why a lot of wrestlers also competed at non-Olympic weights at last December's Emperor's Cup is because if they lose in the upcoming Meiji Cup, they can still challenge at the non-Olympic weights if they won if the Emperor's Cup like: Risako at 59kg, Kiyooka at 55kg. None of the other world champions from 2021 and 2022 for the womens team competed at non-Olympic weights last December, so if they lose at Meiji, they're out for a year unless they can compete in U20/U23. Japan's U23 team has mainly the women that haven't been able to make the senior team or made it once. U23(Umi Ito, Tsugumi Sakurai and Yuka Inagaki the most notable), U20(Kiyooka with some others plus 2 high school students) and U17 national tournaments just happened a few weeks ago. Japan did NOT have anybody competing at 68kg for U23, so I don't know if they're sending anybody for the U23 World championships. Due to lack of depth at that weight, all eligible 68kg wrestlers are competing for the Olympic spot instead. It's going to be amazing. Especially 53kg.

  15. I wonder what that white dominatrix in Reno that went by the name “Thunder Bootie" thinks on whether RBY is going to compete for a world team spot this year. Are RBY's chances "lashed" if he identifies as an Afro Hispanic, marks White for his race on the Census, and his boss classifies his race for him? I jest, I jest. Too much fun when starting on page 4 and working back to page 1 for the original topic.

  18. Does that mean he will make it to the semis guaranteed and maybe lose there or win and lose the finals? If he makes it to the finals, what shot do you give him? I think he makes it to the finals. I don't know after that. I would guess he wins but Glory and Suriano are at least 2 probables that might get in his way. mspart

  19. Also, a reason in trends changing for the 2020 census from the 2010 is due to direct enumerator training of 2010. I have an Afro-Latina wife. We had an enumerator try telling us that because she identifies as Hispanic that he had to mark her as White for her race. When I spoke to his Crew Lead I was once again assured that this was 'How Atlanta wanted it done.' We didn't have as many door to door this last time on 2020... not sure why? ( plandemic maybe ) More people got to select which option(s) they identified as rather than a person doing it for them how they were trained to.

  21. Spainish and Portuguese are considered white. Hispanic derives from Historically Spanish. Latino equates to Central or South American. There are Black (e.g. descendants of slaves) and Native Americans who feel neither terms Latino or Hispanic are inclusive of them. Some say LatinX is preferred by a Black South Americans in line with Malcolm X. Some Chicanos adopted Xicano for their Native American identity. White Spaniard colonists invented the words 'mestizo' and 'mullato' to systematically discriminate among mixed race peoples.

  26. Not a Penn State or Iowa fan, but.... Penn State develops guys guys and can win national titles without the portal. They would have still won minus Dean and Kerk and with Beard and Nevills. They don't need to add one single guy from the portal for next year to still win. Iowa is using the portal (which is fair game) to hold on to 2nd. So, Is your prediction of "Iowa is coming" "2021 was just the beginning" because you actually think Brands can out recruit, out develop and out coach Penn State from here on out? Or is your prediction based on large donors and 3rd parties making it possible to buy a team that can beat Penn State?

  34. If he gets hit for stalling could he not just cut his opponent and get another takedown? Starrocci is probably the last guy I’m cheering for in NCAA’s but he’s very capable in neutral and has no problem getting away. He isn’t squeaking out a bunch of wins by RT.

  38. This can't even be fun at this point. This is asinine. And I say that with all due respect for PSU, but IF Nagao and Truax end up at PSU...it's going to year after where it's basically PSU vs the field. 125-Howard-He's an AA if that shoulder is healthy...and there's no reason he shouldn't be after finally having it surgically fixed. This is a world Gold Medalist who's still has 4 years left. 133-NC contender. Top 3, if Vito and Fix take OLR, favorites. Don't see him beating Vito, but certainly see him giving Fix a run. 141-Bartlett, he's a distance 3 behind the top 2, but not so distant he can't close the cap. Would ANYONE be shocked to see him in the in the finals? 149-Van Ness-top 3 and looked like the light finally went on. Sasso, Gomez...the Van Ness when the light turned on could win it without anyone being the least bit surprised. -Hypothetically from here 157-Messenbrink-Immediate NC contender like Haines was this year...probably a stronger NC contender. 165-Haines is a NC contender with O'Toole and Carr, but...an underdog. 174-3X NC 184-(Truax?)3X AA 3 4th place finishes. Or Lucas Cochran takes over. It won't matter. 197-3X AA HWT-Kerkvliet That's 10 AAs, 8 with legitimate chances to win it and you have, in order 4, 3, 2, 3, 4, 3, 2, 1, ?, 2 years of eligibility left. You've got Lillendal, Sealy, Ryder, Barr, the Mirasolas, Kasak, Mason Gibson, Erik Gibson(which stands to reason Melvin Miller, and then the Bassett brothers. They'll probably get Hopke. This is...absolutely ridiculous. The NCAAs will still be interested, but the team race will be decided by 149 of the quarters. PSU could legitimately put a team out, add their score up vs the highest finisher NOT Wrestling for PSU and potentially beat them. I enjoy getting to witness greatness. But this is TERRIBLE for our sport. And the last thing I expect is a PSU fan to apologize for building a program that everyone wants to go to, for building a RTC that has the funds to pay for World Champions to come and represent them. 2-3 years from now, Kerk, Starocci, Brooks are going to be gone and this team could be BETTER than they are now. Can we at least create a few co-ops? Like...Ohio State and Michigan(Get over it, it's for the greater good). Or Iowa and Iowa State? Missouri and Cornell? I really thought he'd be headed to Missou and JUUUST maybe if things broke right, they could...not push PSU, but give them a run. If he ends up at PSU....it'd actually be almost a joke.

  42. My opinion, what you are speaking of is the fundamental connect, where there should be disconnect. ‘Government’ should not be anywhere in there. Not as far as the Olympics (and level competition) is concerned. I realize that that’s ‘should be’ and not necessarily always is. None the less, the athletes represent the people of their nation. And I think we can all agree governments don’t always represent the will of their nations peoples. I can tell you with certainty this war is not the will of the people of Russia, and while I agree there has to be accountability, withholding the athletes is a much much bigger punishment to the athletes, and the pride the people of Russia take in their success, than it is to the individuals perpetrating what’s going on over there.

  44. Edit-Woah...went on a rant that. If this is TLTR, I hope Messenbrink shocks everyone and Wrestles between Hamiti and Gomez, but if he goes to Mizzou, he's the type of guy I believe will be a multi-time NC and have success at the next level. He reminds me of a Lincoln Mcllravy...not quite as physically gifted, but maybe with more of Brands mentality on the mat. Off the mat, apparently he's a super easy going kid, but again, he's EXTREMELY competitive...and you're going to lose some team points with him, but I suspect it'll be worth it. In fact, I REALLY hope he doesn't go to Mizzou as he's the type of kid to go up to 165 to try and stop O'Toole from winning 4(even if it's a Covid 4, it could be 4). Just that type of kid. So singularly focused. -------------- Oh, it's definitely Askren in their ear. He's VERY openly and publicly critical of Wisconsin and starts when they're young. He did the same shit with Barry as Bono. It's just Ego. He wanted the job at Wisconsin, didn't get it and now he's feuding over the pettiest shit. And of course Mizzou is a big beneficiary of this. Not sure about Minnesota. Northern Iowa got a Gem. Max, the Wagners, Messenbrink...AWA is mostly run by good, humble guys. Messenbrink...I genuinely believe if he took over as the HC at a B1G school, he'd make them competitive. I think most of the credit should go to him. Askren lends his name to it, but he's the backbone from what I can tell. And then you have Max running one club(Max is so different than Ben it's hilarious). Josh Wagner...the other Wagner(not sure why I can't remember his name). Nick Pell, another Mizzou guy. As for Ben pushing kids away from UW, I don't like it...I have a "problem" with it in that it bothers me, but...he's under no obligation to tell advocate for the In-state program. Even setting aside the fact that he's obviously going to try and push kids toward Mizzou because...that's HIS school. That's HIS coach, he takes it so many steps further than that. But honestly, just opening AWA and having those sites has been great for the State. Wisconsin was always a mediocre state because there weren't enough College Wrestlers coming back and coaching. Now you have Pinnacle(Koy Hopke's gym), AWA with a slew of studs and the Crass Brothers. That's about 9 clubs with really good coaches. That's what's taken Wisconsin from a State that occasionally produced a couple studs to a school that is churning out one after the other. They also have a problem with their admissions. One certain former 3X Champ couldn't get into Wisconsin and ended up Wrestling for Okie St...and he did not have bad grades. It was like a 25 ACT and a GPA around 3.0. But even in Football, Wisconsin has been VERY stringent with their standards. They've raised the number of "appeals" to the Football team gets to 8, but they've still lost a lot of very good recruits in Football as well because of their standards. And don't get me wrong, very proud of Wisconsin and my Degree and all that, but...we're not MIT. Yet only it's Wisc and Stanford with the highest admission standards FOR ATHLETES among FBS schools. With all the money they're putting into a new athletic facility, the NIL group they've got, the Luke Fickell hiring...you'd think they'd HAVE to east up here and get a bit more...lets say "reasonable."
    1 point
  45. I would be surprised if Wisc offered 40%. That's a pretty big scholarship and...really quite rare. If Wisconsin offered 40%, they believed in him a lot more than the stories from the Askren camp would suggest. Plus, as I heard it, Barry was pretty gunshy about...again, Wisconsin Wrestlers. The few truly elite Wrestlers from the state did little at UW. There was a guy Erick Swick who was an absolute beast(beat Sanderson the summer each was heading into their Fresh year). Won numerous NCs, International accomplishments, Dennis Hall, another Espoir World Champ, World Champ at the Sr level, Olympic Silver, there were others, but he'd been burned. Jesse Thielke and Destin McCauley(those were after, but still). Anyway, 100% scholarships are...pretty rare. You get 9.9. I don't know, but I thought it was quite a bit lower...and as I said, I don't believe they DID believe in him. I think he's correct on that front. But again...who he was a HS Wrestler and what he became...that's a WIIIDE chasm. Not sure there were a lot of Colleges who were going to give big money to Ben... Hell, Wisconsin is probably a powerhouse right now if they do. Keegan O'Toole, Keckhiesen, Messenbrink are likely in the lineup with Hopke, Sinclair, Mirasola and a few others on the way...plus guys I'm forgetting. Greyson Clark, Millard, they've got a lot of kids who are excelling at the next level all the sudden...and almost all of them are doing it OUTSIDE the land of 15,000 lakes(10,000 doesn't sound so impressive now, does it Minnesota).

  46. As has been reported, it will only take a single congressperson, acting in what is known as a Jeffersonian Motion, to move to remove the Speaker if he or she goes back on their word or policy agenda. A “Church” style committee will be convened to look into the weaponization of the FBI and other government organizations (presumably the CIA, the subject of the original Church Committee) against the American people. Term limits will be put up for a vote. Bills presented to Congress will be single subject, not omnibus with all the attendant earmarks, and there will be a 72-hour minimum period to read them. The Texas Border Plan will be put before Congress. From The Hill: “The four-pronged plan aims to ‘Complete Physical Border Infrastructure,’ ‘Fix Border Enforcement Policies,’ ‘Enforce our Laws in the Interior’ and ‘Target Cartels & Criminal Organizations.’” COVID mandates will be ended as will all funding for them, including so-called “emergency funding.” Budget bills would stop the endless increases in the debt ceiling and hold the Senate accountable for the same. 1. For for this one, as I understand it, it is not limited to the party in power, but to every House member. I don't think this is viable hence my comment on D's using this at least once a week. If it is limited to the Rs for this Congress, I still don't like it as it will be very disruptive. 2. I think this is a great idea as there is at least half the country that believes the FBI has been weaponized against conservatives and their ideology. 3. This may happen but is moot as discussed. 4. Single subject bills is good. A Defense bill should not be including stuff for DHS, National Parks, Aunt Trudy's favorite cause etc. Single subject like defense, or HHS, or what have you. 72 hours to read them is quite reasonable and requires a minimum of planning and administration. The omnibus bill is something no one could read in 72 hours and it had all kinds of subjects. My understanding is that if an amendment comes up that is off topic, it is summarily rejected as out of order. This is all good. 5. The border is porous, the admin is not following the law and allowing millions to enter and with them millions in drugs coming across the border. Something needs to happen to close the border. 6. Again, I'm not sure about this one. I am not a Covid hawk and want all kinds of money for it. But there are some folks still hurting from the economic paralysis that occurred due to it. I am not a covid denier, I have it. It wasn't fun. But there was entirely too much money piled into this. Something needs to be looked at rationally here but I don't think that comes with a stop all funding idea. 7. Continuing to spend more and borrow more really needs to stop. There is trillions of dollars of debt and with interest rates rising, more and more of the budget will be to service that debt. That is a zero sum game. We should not be spending more than we bring in and each year we bring in a record amount of cash to the Treasury. These are my reasons for generally supporting these "concessions". Please provide a point by point reasoning why these concessions are not good. mspart
