  5. Haven’t seen this posted yet. College career hasn’t lived up to expectations from HS but we see that quite often. With Byrd at 133, not sure of the fit…? Maybe Byrd at 133, Madrigal at 141 (for all I know he got big during that RS year), and Pucino bumps to 149? My guess is that like many others, he wanted out of OU after everything going on, and school back home was appealing… but I also can’t see him wanting to go somewhere just to be a backup either. A short aside as an Illini fan and IL native: I could (and did) write a lot about ways IL can improve or roadblocks in the way. If you want to hear that, PM me. But I will say this: Nabbing any big names, to me, says that the kids believe in the future of the program - even if it’s a senior like Madrigal. The influence he has, from college and from his high school career, is not forgotten in Illinois. Plus, the Illini have some great recruits in the pipeline, like Webster, and others just under that, like Baysingar. Swaw has a lot of potential. But they’ve gotta find a way to be more active in the transfer portal for sure.

  7. This might have been mentioned in another thread, but with Nolf vs Dake, and Taylor vs Brooks at Final X do you think there’s any weirdness in the room amongst those guys? As a competitor you would think there would have to be. Gotta be weird for coaches too. Wonder how they handle it. Side note, I would’ve liked to see Brooks go 92KG from the start to have more NLWC guys on the team.

  9. Tagen Jamison to Okie State Somoneons is going to ride the bench, they have Cael Hughes at 133 after fix. At 141-149 they have Carter Young (2 years left with a redshirt), Sammy Alveraz (2 years left), Tagen Jamison (4 years left), and Jordan Williams (4 years left). A good problem to have but Simone good will be definitely sitting on the bench.

  11. Fallacy. You are basing judgment on past scenarios that were different. I believe NLWC had 5 freestyle athletes involved in Final X 2022, and there were zero matchups between their own athletes. As far as I can tell, they had 6 coaches, which could handle 5 athletes. Now, they have 8 athletes in freestyle, still 6 coaches, and two of the matchups involve their club athletes going up against each other. Finally, there are more non-PSU wrestlers in Final X wrestling for NLWC with the arrival of Dake in September 2022. I would be quite surprised if they haven't considered these issues: Have they taken measures to mete out time, money and resources in an equitable manner? Do they have appropriate Chinese Walls to protect their athletes who have to face off against their other athletes? Are there provisions to detect and eliminate possible subliminal biases against athletes who came over to NLWC after college?

  15. Bajrang has always been one of my favorite non-American wrestlers, and he just became even more of a favorite. It’s great to see one of the most popular male wrestlers in the country standing up for the female wrestlers. I hope it helps the situation and justice is served.

  16. I am not really a fan of the tweeners dropping. I want to see him at 65 KG. That said, he has gone on record many times saying 57 KG for 2024 was the goal then MMA.

  17. It is(was). I hope he succeeds and beats Howard out, honestly. The talent is there. He is probably one of the shortest 125lbers in D1.

  18. It is Swafford's brother. Insert Black'N'Gold 'HE SAID HE WOULD FOR GRIFFITH' comment that is surprisingly relevant. Oh, good shit. Curious who's styoe translates better? I think 133 has heavier favorites in Arujau and Fix. 141 has Woods. If I had the choice I would eat, be happy, and go 141.

  19. this ^^^ is what I'm talking about. Fly dont make a zero probability bet until you've at least checked with Wkn, he's got the probability tables. PS: of course Wkn might lead you astray, he's sneaky that way, and he loves Penn State

  30. It's actually a cost-savings technique, both in terms of time and money. For example, the final strategy session can be accomplished in one sitting with both wrestlers present. It might go something like this: SANDERSON: [WATCHING FILM] "Did you see that? Did you see that, Aaron? David always posts the elbow and pushes his opponent away from the collar tie with his other hand before his ankle picks." BROOKS: "Duh, sure coach." SANDERSON: "So, David, I want you to avoid the elbow and instead use a couple of snap downs to get Aaron thinking about them before going with a half-a-snap-down to an ankle pick. Got that? TAYLOR: "Duh, sure coach." SANDERSON: "Aaron, I want you to look for those snap downs because an ankle pick is right around the...." I guess they have to set up a bunch of Chinese Walls as there are 8 athletes and 6 coaches involved. Not enough to go around? That, in turn, raises additional questions: Do the coaches play favorites when it comes to information, time and resources? Wouldn't it be likely, even just on a subliminal level, to favor Penn State University athletes over those that come from, say, Cornell or arch-rival Iowa? Lots to consider.

  36. I think the right way to say it is everyone projected the fourth title. The question we debated here and on HR was where would Lee rank among four timers. We collectively had the mindset he would win four. It is then very hard to start thinking of him as somewhere below other three timers when we were talking about him being better than some four timers just a day, or a week, or a month earlier. Assimilating new information and using it to replace prior knowledge is difficult.
