  1. PSU is going to win with or without a single point at 125 or 133 next year. They have major help coming in the recruits the next couple of years in these weights. I think they will get Cannon for 133 next year. Nagao would be great, but Iowa is going to offer him so much he won't be able to refuse. He also happens to be in one of the three weight classes where Iowa really isn't a bad choice to improve your wrestling skills.
  2. 1. Are you not aware that you can simply look at the team standings on trackwrestling instead of trying to do your own math? 2. Yes- Increase interest by further limiting participation. Maybe just have PSU wrestle an intrasquad and really fill the stands. 3. The covid thing was handled poorly, but you get 4 times to wrestle in the post season. The covid crap is why it seems so different. 4. Stopping the replay crap would shorten matches. Maybe make takedowns worth 3 instead of 2 and keep up that clip by making reversals 3 as well, thus making riding for the sake of riding a bit more dangerous.
  3. I have no dog in this fight but NB bothers to tweet that he is a buckeye but fails to mention the future. He could be a hawkeye next month and his tweet was still true. I would more question how iowa thinks they are going to catch psu bringing in a mid tier criminal and a couple of round of 12 type transfers. AJ i get, but the other three names they are trying to dunk with are the very level of guys that have left them excited for 2/nd. If you are going to beat PSU go after Vito and Ramos.
  4. It was a very exciting moment! Ramos missed his chance in the dual but he decided he wasn't getting denied this time. Wrestling is a sport where you are always in danger of being humbled. For every dream crushed another comes true. Ramos is living large! I want to see his mom's reaction.
  5. He is plain and simple a dirty wrestler. Defend it if you want but Karma often catches up to guys like this. Hopefully he gets called for it sooner rather than later. He is a very good wrestler without resorting to these choke holds, but they can make a couple of point difference in tight matches. He isn't the first and won't be the last guy to try this stuff.
  6. LEVELS.. KOT is still a good deal better than Hamiti. KOT was busy facing Carr who will make anyone not named RBY appear slow while Hamiti was facing slow footed Patrick Kennedy who though a tough kid is not in David Carr's galaxy from a speed or athletic prowess standpoint. Don't get tricked by watching one guy lose to a monster while watching the other guy beat up a mouse. KOT by 5-6 points all day every day.
  7. Warner is a damn good wrestler who is fighting through injuries and probably some motivation issues. College wrestling is very hard and he has been doing it at a very high level for a long time now. I hope he finds a way to enjoy his final matches and achieves at a level his heart can accept. Hawkeye message board warriors have no idea what these guys deal with on a day to day basis. I have always admired Warner for his wrestling and the way he conducts himself after wins and losses. A true credit to his team and family.
  8. Haines has the skills needed to take a wrestler up off of the mat when finishing which negates some of the funk. I think Haines will win 8-4 or something along those lines. Siebrecht will beat bearclaw in a close match imo.
  9. The only way Lee ever gets on top would be to pick top which is likely since he would be trailing and extremely tired by the time the choice was offered. RBY is stronger (by a large amount) than these 125 lb. guys he is turning. If Lee himself thought he could win 133 this year he would be there because it would be so much better for his team. Drake would be a high AA at 125 this year and it would steal a title from PSU at 133. It would give Iowa a real chance in the team race. Add about 15 points to themselves and take a few from PSU.
  10. RBY would kick the sh_t out of Lee. Too big and too fast. He is bigger, stronger, faster, and of similar skill sets. Now if you sucked RBY down to 125 that would be a completely different thing. Lee wins a close decision.
  11. RBY by as big a margin as he feels like. He is a great athlete with far more fast twitch and a way bigger gas tank. Spencer horses 125 lb. guys but probably would end up 3-5 range at 133.
  12. I like that Max Dean is trending toward the lower AA area in my mind, but I'm worried this Van Ness at 149 seams like another PSU great in the making. He sure passes the eye test.
  13. I wish you guys wouldn't let Ban play you like cards. You are playing into his hands far too easy. Everyone knows he gets off on petty battles where he can get multiple people to attack him at once. He loves it. Treat him with kindness like you would an injured kitten.
  14. I think Carr has around a 60% chance of beating O'toole if he does not give up nearfall in the match. If O'toole can score any back points I think the advantage switches to something like 95-5 in favor of O'toole. Simply put I believe Carr has a slight advantage from neutral. I think Carr will win in either the dual or at BIG12 tournament.
  15. That was my first time watching PSU this year, so some of my observations will be such a small snap shot, 125- Maybe can qualify- no points but seems like a kid that will be solid enough to keep things to a decision in important duals. 133- World level as expected. I have no idea why he didn't take the last score for the tech? National champ 141- Great ability to keep things close. different weight but same guy round of 12 type 149- Monster. Reminds me of a metcalf type. heavy hands and constant pressure. top 6 this year. 157- qualifier with 1 or 2 backside wins. 165- seems like another really good middleweight. 165 is so tough that I doubt he places this year, but he will be right there with a few other guys for that 6-8 place. 174- Simply a machine. I would hate to wrestle this guy. National Champ 185- Brooks is in a class of his own but this Ball kid would start most places. 197- Dean is what he is. Like Warner and most of these 197 guys he could win it all or fall early in the tournament. I thought the 2 at the end of regulation should have been awarded and when Rider challenged for the singlet pull (lung timeout) it really hurt Dean who was much fresher. Folk style really needs the one point awarded to the other guy rule on failed challenges. 285- Kerk is getting better. I hope he doesn't figure out the legs and turks because it will seperate him from everyone else. Tony won't beat this guy again short of forcing an upper body situation and going big. Too fast. National champ. These guys are who I thought they were.
  16. I will say an UFC title trumps them both imo. I love seeing more of our top wrestlers chasing fighting instead of international wrestling. More money, more fame, and a way better viewing experience.
  17. I would rather have the NCAA titles. International wrestling is great, but so few people really care or notice in this country. It is to me similar to the difference of being the best soccer player in the world vs the best NFL football player. The rest of the world would say soccer/football but the United States viewing audience would say NFL football. Most of the wrestling people I know won't hardly pay attention to the Worlds but the NCAA tournament they are locked in and filling out brackets.
  18. Real Woods is the next most likely imo. Kennedy of the young guys.
  19. Actions speak louder than words. He has acted in a way that makes me believe he cares more about his college career than international styles. He has competed in college wrestling much more than international. I think he will get this fourth title and still be able to go for the Olympic Gold at least once. It is hard to imagine him being a guy that competes for more than 3-4 years post college due to all of the health problems.
  20. I have a few schools I root for but the school I attended has Cael as an Alumni so there can be no real debate. Gable in #2 position followed by several worthy guys for #3.
  21. I think Spencer will go for this dual. If it starts at 133 or 141 and Iowa is up big he won't, but Brands cares a great deal about winning this dual. I think Murin will handle Johnson just like I think Carr is too fast for Kennedy. 125- Spencer by fall 6-0 133- Teske close 9-0 141- The little Metcalf over Woods 9-3 149 Murin by 5. 12=3 157 Magic ends for Iowa 12-9 165 Carr too fast. 12-12 174- Brands easy 15-12 184 Assad almost but coleman clutch 15-15 197- Warner is a squeaker 18-15 285- Cass showing seperation and pinning. 24-15
  22. I wondered what Warner was jawing about after the match. Warner has always been a very respectful person, so it was surely just some sort of return fire toward a few rowdy cadets. He certainly is wrestling in a much more offensive manner than we have seen in previous seasons. Will it be on display against ISU where he runs into a guy who can counter shoot with the best?
  23. This could be a great match. I think Carr wins a very close decision. 4-3.
  24. PSU often looks a little flat early in the season, so a solid team beating them or losing close would not make me think the sky is falling if I were a PSU fan. They have built the team year in and year out as a tournament team 1/st and just happen to have a great dual team as more of an after thought. Iowa seems to do the opposite.
