  1. This is the most common way that kids get their extra year in so that they don't lose HS eligibility... stay in 8th grade twice. Go to a charter in 8th grade, then move to public and stay in 8th grade (or vice versa) and claim "they need an extra year academically." You can also stay in 8th grade then "homeschool" for a year before entering high school. Lots of ways to stay back in middle school an extra year. It's been going on a long time. And no...19 is not the normal age to graduate.
  2. Going somewhere as a team might be a little tough. I think you are right that coming back closer to home might be the goal. ASU already has Figs at 125 and Chlebove at 133...Teemer has another year at 157 plus they will already have a log jam with Manville coming in and Larkin there. They also have Ruiz at 165. Cal Poly is another option - Lujan would fit nicely there, but they have Legend Lamer at 157 and WIck coming back at 165 next year.
  3. Yep - they didn't want it because now they can't use NIL free of charge...it costs them money....and it's an absolute nightmare to manage. It still does not change the fact they are the group that manages the system that NIL is operating within .... If there is no recruiting/tampering if a kid is not in the portal, it should be enforced - but it's not. It's their job to create a system that works for everyone involved, but right now it's the wild wild west.
  4. And have wins over the top echelon of wrestlers....which would probably change every time you wrestle that bracket.
  5. I agree with this sentiment and I don't blame you for typing out the other 75 or so schools on the list.
  6. As a side note, a local HS has built a relationship with MIzzou and has brought them out for a camp the last 3 summers I think. They do all kinds of fun stuff with the team when they host them. Smith has done a good job out there with that program...I actually wish we would see them bring it all together at the end more often.
  7. Agree....and it has more substantial effects on smaller programs with a smaller donor base. There is excitement in success and I have seen donations rise and fall based on that. Lose your star/s and it's like going back to rebuild again.
  8. Well that's the problem - they can't. Let's be honest and call it what it is... easy grad programs that anyone can get into for an extra year of eligibility with no intention of staying a second year to finish.
  9. If we are talking about the whole sport of NCAA wrestling being financially independent that would require revenue sharing and that's not happening. No way is PSU , MIchigan and Iowa going to share with Cal Bakersfield to keep the sport as whole financially independent. It comes down to teams being financially independent or dying on the vine...and that's what has and will happen. Back to square one.
  10. The NCAA only cares about football and basketball....and they have had one token investigation into using NIL as a recruiting tool to show. They don't care about tampering. You are supposed to be in the portal before a team can even talk to you. Hamiti was in the portal with a Do Not Contact...hmmmm...wonder how that happened? Two years ago Iowa was using 3rd parties to contact - nothing you can do about it. I am sure that guys were being talked to during the season and at the NCAA. Guys are getting poached left and right...nobody will be saving the day - The teams with the big money like Michigan, Iowa, Penn State, etc. will continue to do it. Penn State could win without it....but the others need to do it to stay in the trophy hunt. Guys like Bailey and Little from LR are going to be offered some good $$ to leave because they have 3 years of eligibility left. It will be hard for them to turn down. This has been and will be the discussion every year. Who is getting poached.
  11. Did he get hurt this year? He didn't look real great this season. I don't think he was a MAC champion. I am not sure he can beat out Alvarez, but if Rider brings him in I am sure it would be for them to not be in the same weight.
  12. Still a returning former all American. The ship doesn’t sail if you are an AA - you just are.
  13. "I had an undefeated season in D1 wrestling." Despite only 6-0, he has had a really good season developing. Yes...it will be interesting to see how he does..
  14. Figs was a pre-season top 4 ranked wrestler in every major outlet. Figs dealt with injuries, out of shape, etc. Figs got healthy and hot at the right time. He was masterful at getting a takedown, then backing up the rest of the way even if it was in the second round, then using his opponents pushing on him to try to get another stall to score again with his outside single. He had never wrestled the guys he wrestled at the NCAA...that can be an advantage as some of those guys had wrestled each other multiple times. As a side note on Renteria..... The match with Figs was not just that Figs wrestled bad...but Renteria looked very good and went on the offensive from the get go....say what you will about his record last year, but Figs' loss to him won't look as bad next season. He has improved a ton this year.
  15. That would be my #1 pick as well.
  16. Former NQ Jason Kraisser in the portal
  17. Parco is not going 141....McClane has one more left.... ASU might have the most 6th-7th year wrestlers in their lineup next year
  18. "What does it look like between now and the trials?" "A lot of running." Haha...good line Fix.
  19. Michigan.... joined by 3-4 other mystery transfers.
  20. True.... lowers his loss rate by year.
  21. Your whole premise was questioning whether they would have been AA had they been in the Big 12 tournament two weeks ago... now. you are changing to "Tell me Figs doesn't get better challenges at the Big 12 at 125" - that actually is funny stuff when you move the goal posts. As a side note he would have won the Big 12 as well and the only thing that changes there is his seed. They were AA and they would have been if they had been at the Big 12 tourney as well. You can "what if" injuries all you want for anyone you want. Nobody is questioning the Big 12 being a tougher tourney.....but questioning whether they would have been AA if they had wrestled in that tournament two weeks prior rather than than the Pac 12 is yes....funny.
