  1. Someone on Iowa forum said it’s Donnie Vinson
  2. Gil Sanchez would like a word
  3. I count 5 transferring from GMU, ugh
  4. Slightly off topic but got me thinking, ‘86 started a bad run for Iowa at 118, particularly by their standards. No qualifier in ‘86, Regan seeded 5 but DNP in ‘87, then 3 years of Steve Martin = DNP in ‘88, 7th in ‘89, and DNP IN ‘90. 5 years and best to show is a 7th place. Abysmal during Gable era. Zap got it back on track the next 3.
  5. Matt Egeland. Placed 2nd at 118 in ‘85 from the 8 seed. Struggled the next year with the weight cut.
  6. was the scoring significantly different back in 1986? Iowa had 5 champs, a 2nd, a 4th, and a 5th. Scored 158 then. At a quick glance at bracket decent amount of bonus.
  7. Brothers And Brawlers - Sports Illustrated Vault | SI.com 'Dave spent one unhappy year at Oklahoma State, where he tried to cut too much weight, then transferred to UCLA to be with incoming freshman Mark and Horpel, then an assistant coach there.'
  8. guessing - to wrestle with his brother
  9. I tried to find info on that yesterday, I have vague recall that he was a transfer but can't find anything to verify.
  10. at least 5 for Bakersfield. I mentioned Joe Gonzales earlier, wrestled for Oklahoma before ending up at Bakersfield.
  11. Story in my vague recall - Cuvo was headed to NCSt to wrestle for another Easton PA guy Bob Guzzo. But he never stepped foot on campus, at some point changed his mind to wrestle closer to home.
  12. Dan Cuestas won 2 titles at 126 for Cal-St Bakersfield in '81 and '82. There is a Dan Cuestas in 126 bracket in '79 for Cal-Poly SLO. I'm assuming same guy.
  13. JJ McGrew won a title at Ok St after transferring from Notre Dame
  14. Going back Joe Gonzales was at Oklahoma before transferring to Cal-St Bakersfield where he won 118 title in 1980.
  15. guess this would be small to small but JMU's last All-American (last of 2 lol) Mike Coyle was at Rider first. Big to small going back Joe Gonzalez went from Oklahoma to Cal-State Bakersfield Jody Staylor UNC to ODU is another one.
  16. are people having issue with the playing video games for a year part or the idea of repeating 8th grade? The 8th grade repeat is increasingly common and goes at least as far back as Cary Kolat.
  17. We’ll have to see how he ages. Dr Jim Martin still looks like a youngster. And you know if you wanna be in the baby faced assassin discussion you gotta place your freshman year.
  18. Good point but he still would have looked like he was 12.
  19. And Abe started his career in 93 so only a few years between if that makes sense. And more or less same eras so easier to compare vs fun to think about but harder to compare fantasy matches like 2024 PSU vs 1997 Iowa stuff.
  20. They were close timeframe wise and both won national titles at 126, both went 1,2,3,4 at NCAAs (different places by year though), anyway always figured Abe v Martin would have been a fun scrap.
  21. Chris Campbell. They lost a lot of finals matches.
