  1. Harken back to the 2016 Freestyle World Cup. Yazdani was at 74kg for Iran at that time, and everyone was very excited about the JB/Yazdani matchup. JB's wife was giving birth to one of his kids at the time, and he decided to skip the World Cup event. His choice, but it certainly appeared to me as a duck. The Iran team, perhaps even Yazdani specifically, presented JB with a gift, a sign of respect. I saw JB do an interview in which he referred to the gift as a way to thank him for not wrestling in the World Cup, as if it were a bribe or something. This was the absolute opposite of "gracious, charming, articulate and engaging". It was actually responding to a sign of respect with an overt sign of disrespect on the international stage. Yazdani was prepared to face Burroughs, and Hassan was at the top of his game at 74kg at that time. The results? Iran beat the US in the finals of the 2016 Freestyle World Cup, and it came down to the 74kg match. 2016 Freestyle World Cup Hassan Yazdanicharati IRI tf Alex Dieringer USA, 10-0 I think if Dieringer had scored even one point, the result of the tournament would have been different, because team points were increased for shutouts.
  2. Jordan Burroughs WAS the "ambassador of our sport", but now he is just the ambassador of low impulse control. Nolf blanked him. I hope Nolf takes out Dake. The fan that yelled something about his career being over is a douchebag. What he yelled was true, but it's not necessary to remind him. Carter will remind him on X.
  3. Just as that idiotic PSU fan is letting Iowa live in his head even as PSU wins the team title by 100 points, breaking Iowa's record for the most points, you too, by using this excuse for a comment that preceded that clowns post: "I wanted to avoid thing like this", are letting ghouls live in your head. If I recall your comment correctly, you prioritized the things you wanted and didn't want to happen. Maybe that fool on the Iowa forums will also say that his post was in good fun with a bit of truth buried in there. I still call him out as a troll. There's no need for that kind of behavior.
  4. Fair enough. I guess that's the root of the idiom "resting on your laurels". In ancient Greece, the laurel was a plant that was sacred to Apollo. Winning athletes at the Pythian Games received laurel wreaths. The wheel does always turn, and as a PSU fan I look forward to seeing other teams rising up and a multipolar NCAA tournament. Unipolarism is ugly and boring, both in NCAA wrestling and in geopolitics. I hope PSU continues to reload and face tough competition. The Ohio State has a tough young team of hammers. Cornell has a lot of depth. NCAA tournaments will continue to be exciting, and there's no place to rest on the laurels, even for PSU.
  5. THIS is the right attitude when another team reaches a goal and breaks a record. It demonstrates a fan who is able to remove his homer glasses and recognize a great team and performance. I feel you on Kasak. The kid stepped up in a major way this year, filling in up a weight class for an injured SVN, wrestling an amazing season and then showing the heart to wrestle back for third after dropping his first match. Root for your wrestlers and your teams. Why would Hawk fans be rooting more for PSU not to break the (ancient) record than for their own team to perform well? Mr. PeanutButter, I salute you. Vak, can you give us some insight into your views on the importance of PSU NOT breaking the record?
  6. I had/have little doubt that Brooks would win the NCAA tournament at 197. Beating Olympic and World Champion David Taylor at the Olympic trials this year is an entirely different thing. It absolutely IS in question, especially since Taylor took care of business the last time they met. Brooks has certainly continued to improve, at least in beating up the best of the field at 197 this year. Doing that is much different than beating David Taylor in freestyle.
  7. Absolutely. That's no longer the question for me. The question for me is whether he can take out David Taylor in the Olympic Trials.
  8. "And thanks for giving be a better underhook than Allah gave Hasan Yazdani." God: "Fool! God and Allah are names that humans of different faiths use to address me, the Creator. I gave both you and Yazdani your underhooks, so I know them well. Keep working there, grasshopper. Yazdani's underhook is still superior to yours."
  9. To clarify your statement, if you are born with ONE American parent in a foreign country, you are a natural born American citizen. You can run for and become the President of the United States. Contrast this with "naturalized citizen", which refers to someone who was born the citizen of another country, not a dual-citizen of the United States, who later became a citizen of the US. These people can not become the President of the US, someone like Arnold Shwarzenegger. Regarding citizenship, I have recently found out that I am eligible for Italian citizenship, as my great-grandfather, an immigrant to the US, never naturalized, or became a US citizen, in his lifetime. That means that his son (my grandfather), born in the US, a citizen who fought for the US in WW1, was an Italian citizen; my father, because my grandfather was the son of an Italian citizen, was also an Italian citizen, though my dad never knew it during his life. My brother has recently applied, provided evidence, and received Italian citizenship. Any grandchild of my grandfather can now follow the trail that my brother broke and get Italian citizenship. Don't worry! They're all too old to go over there and wrestle for Italy!
  10. Despite the baby face, Braeden Davis is certainly not in a boy's body. As a matter of fact, his strength is impressive. He gave DeAug fits with his control of his arm much of the time they were standing. In addition, his riding was incredible; he was a real backpack, and DeAug was VERY active from the bottom. He finally got his escape after Davis rode him for 1:45 of the second period. It's good to finally see this young man getting the respect he deserves. Let's see how he does against Ayala. Barn burner for sure.
  11. So I'm a PSU fan, originally from just an hour south of Allentown / Bethlehem on Route 100. I like watching some Lehigh matches, but the Nittany Lions are my team. I just can't understand how there's a post on this forum on Christian Pyles and his farting on a video, but there's bupkis about the nailbiter of a dual between Lehigh and Cornell. Excellent dual, with a few take aways. First, Crookham is a beast, and I won't be surprised if he takes 133 as a freshman. Second, Shapiro is excellent, but he's overrated. I don't see him making the finals, but I think he will AA. Third, Foca is a VERY offensive wrestler, and he could go very far this year. Fourth, Beard is wrestling tough, and if he can stay consistent, he will be a threat at 197. Finally, what an excellent EIWA dual!
  12. Yes you can The jewel has facets, and it is possible that many religions are moderately true. Name that book. Then go buy a copy for yourself...and send one copy to Aaron Brooks. Brooks is 23. He will mature and gain a deeper understanding of God, humanity and this world that we live in.
  13. Thank you for posting your video. It's wonderful. I loved it, as I love the Alistair Sims version of A Christmas Carol dearly. Your video is quite enlightening, providing a cool analysis of the beginning of the story, the background story of Laura Bridgeman and Dickens' writing about her. Very nice. One small quibble: I would avoid words like ridiculous when discussing this serious piece of literature that is everything that you so clearly expressed; it is a call to the reader to improve himself, and to do good in the world. It reminds me of some of the writings of Leo Tolstoy, who in one of his autobiographies lays out what he sees as our duty and responsibility as humans: to take this journey and make it one in which we improve incrementally, doing more good for others in the world. Merry Christmas to you and everyone. God bless us, everyone.
  14. B..b..b..but he's Russian. And on this forum that means he's a lying, doping, evil, Putin-supporting propagandist. Actually, it's quite disgusting, some of the disrespect that we see here. Whether it's Sadulaev, before this tournament recognized as the greatest active freestyle wrestler, suddenly accused of or considered a propagandist, or Tadhudinov, the world champion, an obviously excellent technical wrestler with unbelievable fluidity in movement, tall and strong but certainly NOT musclebound, being accused of doping and looking like Boltukaev. What's wrong with people? I mean, the Iranian fans accept losses, and show great respect for David Taylor, have always loved JB. Why can't you just accept that our guy lost and maybe on that given day their guy was the better wrestler?
  15. Taylor and Dake were committed to continuing their amateur wrestling careers. They kept at it, even when JB was beating them. They had firm goals that they single-mindedly pursued. This is what cultivates greatness. You are too focused on early results. Dake and Taylor didn't get the results in their early freestyle years after finishing the NCAA careers, but can you argue that they haven't done well? Gable Steveson won the Olympics the same year he won NCAAs. He missed Worlds that year, and then, after demolishing the domestic field at hwt. and taking the spot in 2023, he dropped out of Worlds again. This is a pronounced lack of stability. I don't know what's going on in the young man's life, so I will not go so far as to say it's a lack of integrity. There may be issues that I am unaware of. One thing is for sure. He's not stable, as he qualified for Worlds and dropped out. Dake and Taylor have NEVER done that, and they never would.
  16. Ross graduates high school in 2026. Perfect timing. He should keep wrestling freestyle tournaments. He has the height and will continue to develop strength.
  17. Looking to the future, my friend. By the way, there was another guy keeping him from gold or silver this year. That guy also took out "the best pound-for-pound wrestler in the world". The changing of the guard. It always comes. Kyle Snyder will rep the USA in the Olympics in 2024. In 2028?
  18. Exactly. Now I'm a PSU homer, but Ben Keuter immediately popped into my head. If he made some jumps in his wrestling ability, especially freestyle, and kept his weight close, he is the kind of guy who could do it.
  19. Maybe some tall and strong light heavyweight in the 230 to 240 range will drop to 97kg.
  20. Captain America would be the first to admit that winning a bronze at Worlds through a forfeit isn't the performance he was looking for. Performing would be winning the golds that he won so many times when he was younger. I know that Kyle Snyder is one of the great American wrestlers. I'm wondering if we have any young guys who will rise and challenge. How can you not wonder about this, especially in light of Tazhudinov and his dethroning of Sadulaev. Where is our Taz?
  21. At this point, Japan has 5 World Champions and two wrestlers vying for Gold. If these two succeed, Japan will have gold in 7 out of 10 weight classes. Even without these two golds, this is dominance. Congratulations to the Japanese Women's Freestyle Team. They are hammers!
  22. Everyone calls either Snyder or Cox for the Olympics at 97kg. for the US. Fair enough. My curiosity is piqued, though. Who is going to come up and challenge these guys in the next cycle? To be honest, we just aren't performing at 97kg. internationally. Yes, Kyle Snyder won Worlds in 2022, when Sadulaev wasn't there. Now Sadulaev isn't even the man any more. Do we have any serious young challengers for the weight?Does the lack of a 220 pound weight class in NCAA wrestling make it more difficult to develop talent for 97kg. It seems that the jump from 197 to heavyweight makes guys from the former too light for 97kg and the latter too heavy. Can a guy like Aaron Brooks wrestle 97kg? He seems too small. He probably makes 86kg pretty easily. Names please.
  23. Because he's been such a stable competitor in Senior Men's Freestyle for the US, right? Let's give him a new nickname "Stable Gable." It doesn't seem to fit.
