  1. Maximo is a very good wrestler. Last year I remember watching him lose 2-3 to Ramos and then pin (not called by the ref though) DeAugustino in consecutive weeks. as a fan, was sorry to see him leave the orange and blue, but hope he has big success at Oregon State.
  2. good call! maybe Baysingar could slot in at 149 at some point down the line.
  3. Possible Illini lineup: 25 - Caelan Riley 33 - Byrd 41 - Pucino 49 - Webster (will he be too big for 149?) or Harrier 57 - Roberts or Scoles (or Webster?) 65 - D. Braunagel or Moore (RS?) 74 - Ruth! 84 - Connell 97 - Z. Braunagel Hwt - Luffman I'm not as close watching a fan as most here, so i don't know if any incoming freshman might challenge for starting sports though. I'm seeing 5 likely AAs including at 33, 49 (or 57), 74, 97, and Hwt
  4. I voted for Ryan Crouser because he has the best hair and could kick all three of those wrestlers' butts (probably at the same time) if he needed to.
  5. If these schools were smart, they'd add men's AND women's wrestling. doing both at the same time fixes any title IX compliance issues (guessing...I have little idea what actually goes into that). It also makes it way easier to justify expenditures on things like upgrading training facilities as dollars spent will benefit two times the athletes. Also, starting a women's program from scratch would certainly be easier at that level than a men's program in the talent-packed B1G.
  6. I think he has attended a (real!) wresting meet in the past 12 months, so I’ll give him a pass on this topic alone.
  7. Definitely not a fall. And if you believe that, I have a bridge to sell you…
  8. Bring back ties in dual meet bouts. Maybe keep the first SV period within duals and after that it’s a tie. Obviously for elimination tournaments you need overtime and tie breaks. If you can’t be ahead on points after 9 minutes, I don’t really care about perfect fairness. Current rules are fine.
  9. You know, a lot of people go to college for seven years.
  10. Okay, so as not to start a new thread, I'll just add my two favorite athlete related obscene gestures of sporting history. This one above has garnered so much attention, and it is physically impressive, but i think it rates kind of low in the grand scheme of things. Best gesture from a losing athlete: Think this ebay listing actually has an authentic autograph? https://www.ebay.com/itm/225794695690 Awesome because he's flipping off the yankees, obviously. Best overall: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Władysław_Kozakiewicz#Olympic_gold_and_Kozakiewicz's_gesture in Poland, they apparently re-named the gesture in honor of this specific salute he gave to the russian crowd in 1980.
  11. If you're reading through some wrestling results and either Maryland or Virginia Tech participated at the tournament or match? Probably just me.
  12. Well, self-centered, anyway.
  13. I was hoping I could maybe get there sooner by finding an easy weight class.
  14. Oh, man. A Christmas story and It's a Wonderful life are so overrated. Gremlins is good, but isn't even a Christmas movie. Home Alone is a masterpiece. Elf is top 5 for sure Bad Santa is really good. You could have a bad movie marathon adding in Bad Santa 2 and Bad Moms Christmas I kind of feel like Vince Vaughn is in a couple of underrated christmas movies - Four Christmases (has a wrestling scene!), and Fred Claus. I do love holiday movies, but for a change of pace, I also try to squeeze in a viewing of Seinfeld's "The Strike" around this time each year. bonus points if you watch it on December 23rd, though the episode originally aired on this day (dec 18th) in 1997!
  15. related: I love when refs hit both athletes for stalling at the same time!
  16. Dumb idea. Those national trophies in a school's trophy case probably do some amount of good for recruiting, and they certainly enhance then NCAA brand overall. Also, theyve been adding sports over the years and even increasing the number of athletes in various sports who would be considered "all-americans" (another great brand/recruiting/marketing tool). Why take honors away? again, dumb.
  17. I heard he was considering changing his name to Rick Resilite next year when the B1G network expands into more west coast TV markets...
  18. Frightened Stallini assistant coach receives awards from North Carolina prior to the start of a 4:00 pm Dual meet (picture below). This picture taken at 3:59 pm. Looks like we know the reason why this meet started a couple of minute late of schedule...Yep. Stalling as usual. Unfortunately, his stalling prowess has failed to rub off on the Illinois team, as the U of I freshman squad managed to stay in control of this dual against UNC. North Carolina obviously still thinks of itself as a basketball school as their athletes misinterpreted the new 3 pt TD rule to mean that they would have to set up all of their shots with their feet planted outside the arc (that's actually just a circle, people!). When the refs punished that behavior with stalling citations, the tar heels resorted many instances of blood time to needlessly drag out the evening's inevitable conclusion. AOC was introduced at his little ring ceremony as a 5-time All-American. Most mortals can only stall their way to four of these, but apparently some people can stall so well as to get an entire NCAA tournament cancelled!
  19. Let's not forget that comparing D3 studs to D1 studs is obviously going to be lopsided, but there are plenty of crappy D1 teams out there in basically every NCAA sport.
  20. Maybe G.S. will ORS in order to drag this out into next year as well?
  21. especially dropping down to the easiest weight!
  22. I don't like the idea at all either, but you could only allow the 0 pt when it's in a restart where the offensive wrestler elects to go back to neutral.
  23. sorry, just thought that given your handle, you'd be for the new rule as some have posited it might increase the amount of on-the-feet wrestling we see at the college level. I do think this short changes reversals to an extent, though a reversal followed by an escape is still net 1 point. This gimmick won't change many win/loss outcomes, so it's pretty minor except that we may see a lot more major decisions (a good thing), but yeah, this is not solving any real problems, so i agree completely with your first post. However, i don't think it's causing any problems either.
