  1. Sir, your reputation precedes you...who would count of you to pay? If there are 10 things that have to come together to be an Olympic Champion and be crowned best in the world, sad to say that Spencer Lee may only have 9, the 10th being a body that can handle the punishment along the way. He was a great college wrestler, and maybe with the proper medical attention he can be a great US and world level wrestler. We'll have to wait and see.
  2. I have to agree with dragit...why the immediate interview that begs more questions than answers? I would assume it's his knees, but if so, why not just come out and say it?
  3. "Riding time incents and justifies stall rides." Not true...this is just poor refereeing.
  4. When a non-athlete does it (like you describe), they do so on their own with no university affiliation. Their university doesn't help them find/get NIL deals for them in an effort to get them to attend/stay at their university and play a sport. Like it or not, universities don't exist for their student athletes and people would do well to remember that.
  5. I'm not sure there were cartoons 500 years ago, but I do know that a cartoon of a certain prophet might get you in a pickle today. And they say right-wing Christians are nuts...bah!
  6. Nothing against RBY and, say, Starocci...but these are two guys that don't exactly project friendly. Maybe they are different as teammates.
  7. You either want to go to Pen(n)uel or you don't.
  8. This looks like a collegiate version of the Dapper Dan (now Pittsburgh Wrestling Classic): Penn State All-Star Team v. United States All-Star Team.
  9. Let's not forget that Gable had to listen to how he and Iowa winning so much were bad for the sport. If I remember correctly, in an interview, he stated that he almost bought into it (i.e., that Iowa winning so much was bad for the sport) at one point, but then said, nah. Also, while Penn St. did have 5 in the finals, they only had 2 champions with the other 80% of the titles spread around the likes of Princeton, Cornell (2), Northern Colorado, North Carolina, Missouri, Pitt, and Michigan. The lack of competitiveness in the team race at the Championships seems to be the issue with some people. I suppose whining about Penn State winning most every year is one course of action - working hard to unseat them is another. I'm no Iowa fan, but I'd guess that Tom/Terry prefer the latter to the former and are working daily to make that happen.
  10. It has always been my understanding that it is not illegal to "be" a monopoly, but it is illegal to exercise monopoly power. If you're a D1 school, is there a legitimate alternative to the NCAA? Could you really go it alone somehow? I think not. The problem with NIL is that the NCAA got caught with their hand in the cookie jar. What they were doing was wrong, period. But of all the possible solutions, an infinity of potential solutions really, I think NIL is among the worst and will prove to be just that. Just one notch above hand in cookie jar. If I had my way, no student athletes in the money sports would even get tuition reduced let alone NIL. Go to the pros if you want to make money, go to college if you want an education. I'm sure this post will defy the sensibilities of many, but I don't care, I know I'm right.
  11. What part of the NCAA isn't a violation of anti-trust?
  12. I would imagine that stricter pass interference rule changes in football years ago and basketball not calling fouls and traveling with too much veracity have both increased viewership. Those rule changes (or interpretations) increased scoring and action which has to increase viewership. For that matter, if soccer wants more viewership in the USA, call more fouls. That should have the consequence of inducing more scoring which fans seem to appreciate. Wrestling any different?
  13. Hard to argue with Lewan and Amine. I'd also put Marinelli on that list. His stall ride was epic.
